What Makes a Successful Mentorship?

The IAFS Mentorship Program is built on meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and mutual respect. Every mentoring relationship will look a little different, but the most successful partnerships have a few things in common.

Mentoring is a shared responsibility.

  • Mentors share experiences, offer perspective, ask thoughtful questions, and provide encouragement.
  • Mentees take ownership of their career development by setting goals, asking questions, and following through on action items.

Neither person is expected to have all the answers. The goal is to learn from one another and build a professional relationship that supports the mentee's growth. The most successful mentoring relationships are built through consistent conversations, mutual respect, and a genuine interest in learning from one another.

Additional Mentorship Resources
