The Department of Classics offers different job opportunities for academic, research, and administrative purposes throughout the year. Below you will find more information about the current openings:

Assistant Instructor (Job Code 1444)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise an average of 3-4 graduate student instructors per Academic Year (AY) who annually teach Beginning Latin I & II (LATN 1014, 1024) and Intermediate Latin I & II (LATN 2114, 2124)
  • Provide materials, technological support, and general pedagogical coaching to student instructors
  • Meet with student instructors weekly to troubleshoot any issues that may arise and suggest additional materials if they are needed
  • Hold office hours for students from all Latin classes, so that students who cannot make their instructor’s office hours will have an alternative means of support
  • Create and provide placement tests for incoming students who have taken some Latin at their previous institution(s)
  • Serve as an advisor for graduate students pursuing the Classics MA with the focus on Latin teaching
  • Oversee the undergraduate Latin curriculum (e.g., which courses to offer and which textbooks to use)
  • institute needed revisions and reforms based on the newest advances in Latin pedagogy

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Classics
  • Previous experience teaching beginning and intermediate Latin at the collegiate level
  • Previous experience advising college students

Compensation

  • $10,760 contract per Academic Year
