Marilyn Brock (she/her) has developed a career that spans the intersecting worlds of music, business and academia. Brock currently serves as interim director and assistant teaching professor at the Entrepreneurship Center for Music (ECM) at the University of Ä¢¹½Ó°Òô Boulder, having also served as interim director in 2023–24. Her prior teaching experience includes roles in Ä¢¹½Ó°Òô Boulder’s College of Music and the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.
A first-generation college graduate, Brock holds a PhD in Business, an MBA and an MA in Musicology from the University of Denver, as well as a BM in Voice from Pittsburg State University. Brock’s research explores how entrepreneurs and organizational leaders, particularly within the arts sector,Ìýnavigate the impacts of sexism, gender-based violence and personal trauma. In 2026, she was recognized for her scholarly contributions with the SAEE Gary D. Beckman Research Impact Award–the highest honor for scholarship in the field of arts entrepreneurship.Ìý
Prior to her career in academia, Brock’s work encompassed development, finance and events management for organizations such as Seattle Opera, the Boulder Philharmonic, and Nebula Ensemble–the last of which she successfully established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. As a mezzo-soprano, Brock performed at an array of American and European venues, including New York City’s David Geffen Hall. Simultaneously, she developed a successful career in the Front Range real estate industry and is currently licensed as an associate broker with Simply Denver Homes.Ìý
A sought-after speaker and career advisor, Brock has presented for the Society for Arts Entrepreneurship Education, the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, the University of Denver’s Entrepreneurship@DU speaker series, the MCA Creators Studio, the Lamont School of Music Colloquium Series and others.Ìý
An advocate for equity and community engagement, she volunteers with several Front Range arts and nonprofit organizations. Her previous volunteer work has included serving as President of the Rose Andom Center’s Young Professionals Council and as Marketing Committee Chair for the Ä¢¹½Ó°Òô Symphony Associate Board. Brock lives in Boulder with her cat, Fenice, and she enjoys hiking Ä¢¹½Ó°Òô's trails, traveling to all corners of the world and engaging with the history, culture and cuisine of the places she visits.
