This passion is rooted in my connection to Campo, CO, a community completely dependent on groundwater that is expected to run dry within the next 50 years. An internship with a carbon credit project firm in Bogotá, Colombia opened my eyes to different economic and legal tools that could be used to incentivize water conservation in areas like Campo. Van Oort, partner at Faegre Drinker, described the impacts of <em>Trump v. Slaughter</em> and <em>Trump v. Cook</em>, cases stemming from President Donald Trump’s attempts to fire Rebecca Slaughter from the Federal Trade Commission and Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve Board.</p><p>Distinguished Professor Helen Norton, Rothgerber Chair in Constitutional Law, discussed key points of <em>Learning Resources, Inc. v. B.P.J.</em>, which upheld a state ban on transgender girls joining female school athletic teams. He also examined <em>Chiles v. Salazar</em>, which found that ĢӰ's bans on conversion therapy for minors were subject to strict scrutiny under the First Amendment and remanded to the lower courts to apply that standard.</p><p>Gulasekaram talked about the importance of <em>Trump v. Barbara</em>, which reaffirmed birthright citizenship, including for the children of undocumented noncitizens and those on temporary visas.&nbsp;</p><p>The event concluded with Professor Doug Spencer, Rothgerber Chair in Constitutional Law, giving an overview of several cases dealing with federal elections and analyzing the thorny questions that remain following <em>Louisiana v. I'm hoping to use my law degree along with my background in education to be a resource, advocate, and support for kids and families with whatever difficulty they may be facing.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p lang="EN-US"><span lang="EN-US"><strong>What are your hobbies outside of work and school?&nbsp;</strong></span><span><strong>&nbsp;</strong></span></p></div><div><p lang="EN-US"><span lang="EN-US"><strong>AA</strong>: Outside of work, I enjoy running, riding my bike, playing the viola, sketching, and playing roller derby.</span><span>&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p lang="EN-US"><span lang="EN-US"><strong>Why did you choose ĢӰ law?&nbsp;</strong></span><span><strong>&nbsp;</strong></span></p></div><div><p lang="EN-US"><span lang="EN-US"><strong>AA</strong>: I picked ĢӰ law for a few reasons. Geographically, ĢӰ is a place that I care about--I already felt connected to local communities here having worked in Denver, and it's where my husband and I met! Academically, ĢӰ law's Juvenile and Family Law Program is perfectly&nbsp;aligned with the type of work I'm interested in. The intentional cohort model, and engaged professors were also important to me in choosing ĢӰ.
