The Graduate School announced changes to graduate and professional student benefits and fees in today’s Ģ��Ӱ��BT Graduate Student Edition. The highlights:

Parental leave for all students and paid leave for students on appointment.
Opt-in dental insurance covered at the same rate as Gold SHIP for students on appointment.
University coverage of the RTD College Pass for students on appointment.
University-wide reductions of two fees: saving $59.20 per academic year, pending Regents approval.

UGGS is thrilled to see these initial changes being enacted from the recommendations made by the Compensation and Benefits Taskforce and from the ongoing conversations between UGGS and the Graduate School. These benefits and changes to fees represent a big win for the graduate and professional student community at Ģ��Ӱ�� Boulder, and reflect the persistence of many student groups in making their voices heard both publicly and through the presence of UGGS on committees across campus.

This is a great step forward, but the work isn’t over yet. We recognize the financial burden of being a graduate student in Boulder, and will continue to advocate for graduate and professional students well-being and success in our ongoing meetings with the Graduate School and the Ģ��Ӱ�� Boulder Administration.

Today, UGGS hosted the launch party for the Ģ��Ӱ�� Federation for Graduate Students (CFGS). The foundation for the federation was established during the most recent Western Regional National Association of Graduate & Professional Students (NAGPS) conference hosted by Ģ��Ӱ�� Boulder. CFGS is recognized by the NAGPS. Ģ��Ӱ�� universities decided to form this Ģ��Ӱ�� federation because when the big issues of last academic year arose--the proposed tax bill, DACA, the PROSPER Act--we would have benefited from a statewide support network.

Going forward, we will work together to advocate for and support the needs of graduate students across the state of Ģ��Ӱ��. And nothing like this exists elsewhere in the country! Our founding members are Ģ��Ӱ�� Boulder, DU, Ģ��Ӱ�� School of Mines, Anschutz, CSU. UGGS was joined by representatives from the Governor's Office and members of the press. The afternoon consisted of an information session, followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from different universities in conversation with the audience, then an official signing of the CFGS constitution by graduate student government presidents.
