Monica is a forest ecologist with expertise in biogeography, disturbance ecology, global change ecology, and fire history. Her dissertation work addressed spatial and temporal patterns of post-fire conifer regeneration in low-elevation forests of the Ä¢¹½Ó°Òô Front Range. Her goal as a researcher is to inform forest management in the context of ongoing climate and land-use changes. The Fourmile Canyon fire was the most destructive wildland fire in Ä¢¹½Ó°Òô's history, destroying more than 160 homes and burning over 6,000 acres of forest. There is an urgent need for historical perspective on wildfires and post-fire regeneration.
