Event Funding

CAS Event Funding Procedures

CAS has revised event application procedures and forms for AY 26-27. Please read through the following information carefully.

Faculty are eligible for one award per academic year. CAS is happy to consider applications for AY 26-27 and beyond. We are especially interested in events which will align with our annual theme.

CAS encourages you to meet with CAS Event Coordinator Liza Williams about planning your event before the application due date. Please email Liza (liza.williams@colorado.edu) to make an appointment to talk through your application.

Tier 1 - Tier 1 funding is intended to support large events both financially and logistically. Applications can be submitted monthly on the first Friday of each month as long as the application is submitted 75 days before the event is planned.

CAS can fund two Tier 1 applications in AY 26-27 up to $2500 each. Additional awards may become available if requests do not reach the $2500 maximum limit.

For Tier 1 awards, CAS can provide logistical support for any of the following:

  • Travel and hotel arrangements
  • Venue reservations
  • Catering and day-of event support
  • Poster design and marketing
  • Honoraria and travel reimbursement payments
  • additional logistical and technical support as needed

Tier 1 Applications are due on the first Friday of each month AY 2026-2027 application due dates: September 4, October 2, November 6, December 4, January 8, February 5, March 5, (and April 2 or May 1 for AY 27-28).  Applications received after each deadline will be considered in the following month's committee meeting.

Applications must be submitted by a faculty member. Tier 1 applications must arrive at least 75 days prior the date of the event so that we can give them full consideration and develop and implement logistical support.

Tier 2 – Tier 2 funding is intended for events that need only funding, or funding plus less intensive event support. Applications are due monthly during the semester on the first Friday of each month.

Awards available from $0 to $500 for Asia-related events. Cost-sharing with other programs is strongly encouraged.

  • If approved with no event support, CAS will transfer the award to the appropriate fund 34 speedtype.
  • If approved with some planning support, CAS can help with moderate event planning and financial processing.
  • Please indicate in your application if you are looking for funding only, or if you are requesting some event planning from CAS.

Tier 2 Applications are due on the first Friday of each month AY 2026-2027 application due dates: September 4, October 2, November 6, December 4, January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2 (and May 1 for AY 27-28). Applications received after each deadline will be considered in the following month's committee meeting.

Applications must be submitted by a faculty member. Tier 2 applications must arrive at least 4 weeks prior the date of the event so that we can give them full consideration and transfer funds if appropriate.

Tier 3 - CAS Co-Sponsorship ONLY - CAS will provide website listing and send an email about your event

If you are planning an event and you only want co-sponsorship with CAS, which would include email and website listings, but no financial support, planning or payment processing, then please fill out this form at least 4 weeks before your event. Information received by the 25th of the month prior to the event can be included in our monthly event digest. CAS should be named as a co-sponsor in all publicity materials.

Please contact Liza Williams (liza.williams@colorado.edu) if you have any questions.

Publicizing non-CAS events:

Information about "non-CAS events" (events not sponsored by CAS) may now be included in our monthly event digest and posted on our website's bulletin board. The CAS monthly digest is sent out at the beginning of each month to those on our listserve and provides detailed information about CAS sponsored events for the following weeks. The addition of non-CAS events to our event digest is designed to help our faculty promote Asia-related events that may be of interest to those subscribing to our email list.

If you would like CAS to include a NON-CAS sponsored event on our website and in our event digest, please send information (date, time, location, contact for questions and a short description) about the event by the 25th of each month for the following month's digest to Liza Williams at Liza.Williams@colorado.edu. For example, information about an event received before March 25 will be included in April's digest, which will be sent out in early April. We appreciate the information as far in advance as possible.
