Dr. Shaz Zamore (they/them/theirs) teaches and researches at the intersections of neurobiology and technology. Dr. ZÌýholds aÌýBSÌýin Biological Sciences fromÌýCornell University (2007) and a PhD inÌýNeurobiology and Behavior from the University of Washington, Seattle (2015).
Their current research and creative practice both focus on physical technology design for children and stress in informal STEAM learning contexts education. Shaz applies their background in computational neuroscience and informal STEAM education to produce neuroscience comics and wearable devices for upper elementary and middle school-aged children.
In classrooms, Shaz explores with students the tech ethics and justice, underpinnings of Transformer networks and their proximity (or lack thereof) to brain function, designing for private data collection in wearable devices, and the future of inclusive design as technology inevitably becomes closer to (and integrated with) human physiology.
Outside of work, Shaz avidly enjoys snowboarding, fire performance, homesteading, hobby mechanics and reading.
